The desk's privacy policy, in plain language

The desk's privacy policy is short on purpose. The desk does not sell reader data, does not include third-party advertising SDKs, and does not share reader email addresses with any third party. The desk uses a single analytics tool to count page views, and the desk tells you which one.

What the desk collects

Four things, in plain language.

1 · Email address (if you sign up)

If you create an esportsx account, the desk collects your email address. The desk uses the address for sign-in, for the desk's editorial newsletter (one email a week, you can unsubscribe with one click), and for the desk's transactional email (password reset, account changes).

2 · Reading activity (if you sign in)

If you sign in, the desk records which articles you read, which teams you follow, and which bookmarks you save. The desk uses this data to power the "your reading list" feature and to improve the desk's editorial recommendations. You can delete your reading activity at any time from the account page.

3 · Page views (always)

The desk uses a single, privacy-respecting analytics tool to count page views. The tool records the URL, the referrer, the device type, and the country. The tool does not record the reader's IP address and does not set any advertising cookies.

4 · Nothing else

The desk does not collect the reader's name, address, phone number, payment information, or any other personal data. The desk does not run any third-party advertising SDKs. The desk does not run any third-party social widgets. The desk does not embed any third-party fonts or scripts beyond the Google Fonts CSS file.

What the desk does not do

The list is short, and the desk is clear about it.

No data sale

The desk does not sell reader data. The desk does not share reader data with any third party for advertising, marketing, or any other commercial purpose. The desk's only commercial relationship is the affiliate route for the tournament app, and the desk does not share reader data with the affiliate.

No third-party advertising

The desk does not run any third-party advertising SDKs, does not embed any third-party ad networks, and does not set any advertising cookies. The desk's revenue comes from reader subscriptions and the affiliate route.

No social tracking

The desk does not embed any third-party social widgets (Facebook Like, Twitter share, etc.). The desk's social links are simple anchor tags that open the platform in a new tab. No tracking pixels, no social cookies.

No fingerprinting

The desk does not use browser fingerprinting, device fingerprinting, or any other reader-tracking technique beyond the single analytics tool described above. The desk does not use any third-party anti-fraud or anti-bot service that fingerprints the reader.

Data retention, in plain language

How long the desk keeps the data the desk collects.

Email address

Kept for as long as the reader's account is active. If the reader deletes their account, the email address is deleted from the desk's systems within 30 days. The desk keeps a hashed version of the email address for an additional 90 days to prevent re-registration with the same address.

Reading activity

Kept for as long as the reader's account is active. The reader can delete their reading activity at any time from the account page. If the reader deletes their account, the reading activity is deleted within 30 days.

Cookies, in plain language

The cookies the desk uses, and the cookies the desk does not use.

What the desk does not use

The desk does not use any third-party cookies. The desk does not use any advertising cookies. The desk does not use any social media cookies. The desk does not use any cross-site tracking cookies. The desk's single first-party cookie is the only cookie the desk sets.

How to clear the cookie

How to opt out of analytics

The desk's single privacy-respecting analytics tool respects the "Do Not Track" browser setting. If you have Do Not Track enabled, the desk's analytics tool will not record your page views.

Children's privacy

The desk's position, in plain language.

The desk's website is intended for readers 18 and over. The desk does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under the age of 18. If a parent or guardian believes the desk has collected personal data from a child under 18, the parent or guardian should write to the desk via the contact page and the desk will delete the data within 30 days.

The desk's analytics tool is configured to exclude readers under 18 from any aggregated data the desk publishes. The desk does not run any advertising on the website, so the question of behavioural advertising to children does not arise.
