Two ways to install
The app is free to download. No account required to read. An account is required to save bookmarks and follow teams.

Every active bracket, every closed bracket, every archived bracket. The bracket reader is the part of the app the desk is most proud of.
Team pages
Every team we cover, with roster, captain, region, map pool, head-to-head record and current form. Save a team to get a quiet push when they play.
News stream
The desk's news stream, in the same order as the website. The app does not editorially re-rank — the order on the site is the order in the app.
Reader bookmarks
Save any article, bracket page, or team page. Bookmarks are local to the device unless you sign in to an esportsx account.
Push, but quiet
Push notifications are off by default. When you turn them on, you can scope them to teams, tournaments, or specific match days. The app does not push breaking news unless it is actually breaking.
What's not in the app
A short list, in plain language.
No betting, no picks
The app is editorial. There is no sportsbook, no bet slip, no picks column, no in-app purchase related to gambling. The PLAY NOW button takes you to the desk's affiliate route for the tournament's first-party app, which is a separate product.
No tracking, no third-party ads
The app does not include third-party advertising SDKs, does not track you across other apps, and does not sell reader data. The app is funded by the desk's editorial subscription and the affiliate route for the tournament app.

Push notifications
Quiet push notifications when a match you follow is about to start, or when a story the desk thinks you will want to read is published. Push notifications are off by default. You can scope them to teams, tournaments, or specific match days.
Network access
The app needs network access to fetch the live score strip, the news stream, the bracket reader, and your bookmarks. The app does not use background network access for anything else.
Storage
The app uses local storage to cache the live score strip and the most recent news articles. The app does not read from your photo library, your contacts, or your files. The app's local storage is cleared when you sign out.
What the desk updates between releases
The app follows a four-week release cycle. Every release ships the news stream, the live score strip, the bracket reader, the team and player pages, and the push notification system. New features ship every other release.
Release 4.1 (this month)
The current release ships the news stream, the live score strip, and the push notification system. The release also ships a small visual refresh of the bracket reader and a fix for the iPad split-view layout. The release notes are published on the app store pages and on the desk's news stream.
Release 4.2 (next month)
The next release ships a redesigned team page with a more visual map pool section. The release also ships a new "follow a single match" feature that lets the reader pin a single match to the top of the score strip. The release notes will be published when the release ships.
Release 4.3 (in two months)
The release after that ships the long-awaited offline reading mode. The reader will be able to download articles and bracket pages for offline reading on flights, on commutes, and in any other context where the reader does not have reliable network access. The release also ships an Android widget for the home screen.
Release 5.0 (in three months)
The 5.0 release is the major annual update. The release ships a redesigned reading view, a new long-form guide archive, and the desk's first iPad-specific layout. The 5.0 release will be the largest single update the app has shipped since launch.

The desk's commitment to the reader who uses assistive technology.
The app is built to the WCAG 2.2 AA standard. Every interactive element has a visible focus state. Every image has alt text. Every form input has a label. Every page has a logical reading order. The app supports the iOS and Android system-level accessibility features, including dynamic type, screen reader, voice control, and reduced motion.
The desk's accessibility statement is published on the about page. The desk welcomes reader feedback on accessibility — write to the desk via the contact page and the desk will respond within two business days.
