Vortex — the second-most-covered title on the desk

Hero shooter, 5v5, objective-based. Two seasons of competitive play. Heroes, maps and the patch history that shaped the meta.

Vortex is the second-most-covered title on the desk. Hero shooter, 5v5, objective-based. Two seasons of competitive play and the title with the youngest meta on the circuit. Vortex coverage runs four articles a day during the active season and two a day during the off-season.

The active map pool is five maps — two control, two payload, one capture-the-flag. The map veto is read differently than in Spectre — the Vortex veto is built around hero synergy rather than map pool depth, and the desk tracks the synergy data for every series.

The hero pool is thirty-two heroes across three roles — tank, damage and support. The pick-rate and win-rate data is published weekly and the patch delta is the cleanest single number for a meta shift. The desk's standing note is that the Vortex meta shifts faster than the Spectre meta because the hero pool is broader.

The two newly-released operators have settled into the meta. One is the new entry operator of choice on the offensive side; the other is the new sentinel of choice on the defensive side. The two-operator meta is the cleanest shift Vortex has had in a year.

The Vortex broadcast is the youngest of the three. The cast rotation is two play-by-play casters, a single colour caster, and a rotating guest analyst. The Vortex broadcast leans on the guest analyst for the deep macro reads and the colour caster for the player-and-team stories.

The Vortex patch cycle is four weeks — the shortest on the circuit. The desk reads every patch and writes the meta story before the cast does. The analyst section of every patch notes page is the desk's read on the change — what the cast will be talking about on the next broadcast, which teams will adjust first, which maps the change will move.

Vortex is the title the desk reads fastest. The standing rule is that any change to the Vortex meta is reflected on the patch notes page and on the title page within an hour of the official announcement. The desk's read on Vortex is the structural read on the hero-shooter meta.
